Black Agenda
Since 2015, the Kansas Black Leadership Council has gathered its members to discuss the issues most important to Black Kansans. Leaders and experts are invited to address members and then members vote for the issues to include on a Legislative Agenda. The agenda is shared with local and state representatives as well as advocates. The process has allowed KBLC to partner with the African American Legislative Caucus to introduce legislation important to Black Kansans as well as change policy at the local level.
Kansas Black Leadership Day at the Capitol
We work with multiple organizations throughout Kansas to organize a Kansas Black Legislative Day at the Capitol, including the Kansas African American Affairs Commission, the Kansas Black Legislative Caucus, the Kansas NAACP and The Community Voice. Ahead of this year's event we conducted a survey and hosted a Kansas Black Agenda Webinar.
Your voice is important! This year we hosted Black Legislative Day at the Capitol on Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2024. We will gathered from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm for a full day of events, including a Black History Month Proclamation from Governor Kelly and a special tribute in memory of Representative Gail Finney, honoring her legacy. We also heard from subject experts on priority issues and have an opportunity to speak with key legislators.
